Estimator
About the role
The Estimator will join the EC Surfacing commercial and estimating team and report to the Pre Construction & Estimating Director.
Core duties and responsibilities
- Capture and review estimating opportunities, ensuring pipeline visibility and accurate, competitive pricing across quotations and tenders.
- Prepare detailed take-offs, quantities and pricing for tenders and quotations within agreed timescales.
- Source and obtain competitive quotations from subcontractors and suppliers to support accurate tender pricing.
- Analyse tender and contract documentation to identify scope, risk and commercial opportunity ahead of pricing.
- Track and report on quotation and tender conversion rates and win/loss reasons.
- Support a smooth handover of secured contracts from estimating into live operations, working closely with the Commercial Manager and operational teams.
- Maintain up-to-date pricing and cost databases and market-rate information to support accurate estimating.
- Build and maintain good relationships with clients, framework suppliers and design consultants.
- Keep up to date on relevant changes in standards, legislation and market rates affecting pricing and estimating.
- Ensure all estimating records, pricing documents and tender submissions are accurate, complete and compliant with company procedures.
Health and safety responsibilities
- Support accident, incident and near-miss investigations by providing statements and evidence where required.
- Follow and adhere to risk assessment controls, Safe Systems of Work and PPE requirements.
- Report accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Ensure fulfilment of the health and safety elements of the role.
- Set a personal example regarding health and safety matters, promoting the safety culture through observations, site standards and workplace safety.
- Comply with all legal requirements.
- Take care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your actions.

Requirements
Essential qualifications and experience
- Full driving licence.
- Previous relevant industry experience in estimating or take-off.
- Experience pricing tenders and quotations.
Essential skills and behaviours
- Excellent knowledge of IT and estimating/take-off software.
- Good organisation and time-management skills.
- Courteous and polite manner with customers.
- Strong organisational, administrative and planning skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work without supervision.
- Attention to detail.
- Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information.
- Ability to multi-task.
Desirable qualifications and knowledge
- CSCS Card.
- Relevant estimating qualification, such as an HNC, HND, degree or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of NEC/JCT forms of contract, CVR and valuation processes.
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations, Design Management, Programme Management and Risk Management.
